Supernatural 05:13
Coldest days won’t get you down What’s in your head that’s making sound Like a king your dreams are crowned Painted masterpiece for free With time to feed my favorite willow tree But who made the sun? CHORUS Who made the sun? Calculations don’t say it at all Some would say what’s done is done I believe we’re supernatural Waking up I sometimes hate to get up The pressing just won’t let up When dressing I won’t dress up I get so tiny then I feel so small I get so big and then I feel so tall An empty glass can hold it all Today I’m gonna sing Smile ‘til it stings CHORUS I say "god?" and you say goodbye It’s not like that Crash into a beautiful future self destruct You just laugh You thought I was not coming back In fact I told you I’d be gone If I can retract that, I was wrong So tell me who made the sun? Calculations don’t say it at all. I believe we're supernatural The hand that holds me doesn’t hold me down Keeping me around I found

Being OK 04:32
Left my hometown for a big town. Now the big town is my hometown... and it isn’t big at all. How this city became small. But I’m being OK. Fancied myself the wandering type. Dreamed of paths and never ever destinations. Figured in the work but not the time. But I’m being OK. Now freshness is in the skin of children. Believing makes it so, and every time we think back we were dying to get old. Our moments breaking all time records; speeding like gunfire. Rounds and rounds of movement and the moment still expires. Never to be had again. Reliving takes up time and then you’ve lost the moment twice. Yeah, I’m being OK. And the picture isn’t finished. Shake the box and they’re all in it! Put the pieces all away. Everything is there... No one really cares. We put it back anyway. Take it apart anyway. But we’re being OK.

Pterodactyl 03:39
I spied you sailing overhead What was this that my eyes had seen I felt a snap inside my mind Words spread among my vertebrae I don't fly I think I had a dream But it was just... It was just a dream

about

This Came First is the companion EP for Phoenix, and features one song off the record, plus three songs written between 2004 and 2010 that were contenders for the album but got kicked off. There were going to be two piano/vocal versions of songs from Phoenix, but this group of four, in the end, felt like a "body of work" together. Perhaps the piano/vocal songs will crop up in the future, somewhere.
